About Breastfeeding

The American Academy of Pediatrics, the World Health Organization, The Center for Disease Control, the Department of Health and Human Services, and the College of Nurse-Midwifery states that all babies should be breastfed exclusively in the first six months and then breastfed along with solid foods until at least one year and longer if the mother and baby desire.

Midwifery Breastfeeding Services

One of Fletcher Allen's nurse-midwives will support and educate women as they begin their breastfeeding experience. Marti Churchill, CNM, is a board-certified Lactation Consultant offering lactation services to women who have breastfeeding difficulties.

Women who are planning to breastfeed for the first time or have had difficulties breastfeeding in the past, are encouraged to attend our prenatal breastfeeding class and/or schedule a prenatal visit with us to discuss your individual needs.

A lactation visit can be scheduled if problems arise after breastfeeding has been initiated. To contact a lactation consultant, please call 802-847-2237.
