Vermont and the northern New York region. Located in Burlington, Fletcher Allen is a regional, academic healthcare center and teaching hospital in alliance with the University of Vermont.
Education
An important mission of the Department of Surgery, the University of Vermont and Fletcher Allen is education. All staff members participate in Continuing Medical Education and are an integral part of the surgical education of medical students and residents. These students and residents participate in the surgeon's clinical activities in the Breast Care Center, on the surgical wards and in the operating room as observers and assistants in a patient's care.
Weekly conferences are held to help coordinate the Care of cancer patients as well as provide educational opportunities for students, residents and staff.

Residency Program
The Department of Surgery is dedicated to the care of the surgical patient, the advancement of surgical research and the education of future surgeons through the University of Vermont. Medical Students and Surgery Residents participate in clinics at the Breast Care Center and care of hospitalized patients. It is through education, teaching and research that the providers provide state of the art care for all patients.
