Transplantation Services

Currently, Transplantation Surgery and Immunology at Fletcher Allen provides the following variations of organ transplants:

Kidney Transplant Surgery

The variations of kidney transplantation surgeries Fletcher Allen transplant surgeons perform include: living donor - related, living donor - unrelated, Good Samaritan (non-directed/anonymous), cadaver donation, high-risk/highly sensitized protocols, living related/unrelated - deceased exchange, and pediatric kidney transplantation.

We also offer a laparoscopic nephrectomy, also known as "keyhole surgery" -- a minimally invasive procedure to obtain a kidney from a living donor.

Pancreas Transplant Surgery

Additionally, we perform pancreas transplantation in any of the following combinations: simultaneous kidney and pancreas surgery, pancreas after kidney, and pancreas transplant surgery only.

The pancreas transplants are done for patients with Type 1 diabetes mellitus and and for some patients with Type 2 diabetes who have secondary complications. A successful pancreas transplant means that the recipient's glucose remains normal without insulin injections.

Services available through Fletcher Allen's Transplant Surgery program:
