Anesthesiology is staffed by 35 anesthesiologists who provide surgical anesthesia, pain management, and critical care medicine consultation and management. Subspecialty areas of expertise include cardiac anesthesia, neuroanesthesia, adult and pediatric critical care medicine, obstetric anesthesia, pediatric anesthesia, pain management, and ambulatory anesthesia.
Management of complex airway and other anesthetic challenges is available 24 hours per day by in-house attending physicians.
Active clinical research protocols throughout all divisions of the health care service constantly seek to improve the care provided to patients within Fletcher Allen.
In addition to providing services within Fletcher Allen, the department is available as a consultative resource to anesthesia providers and other physicians throughout upper New England. Consultation is available at any time for any reason.
