They manage complex medical issues, collaborate with other specialists, provide ongoing education, and help patients set and achieve goals for maximum independence after their stay. Rehabilitation nursing is part of every patient’s care at Fletcher Allen Inpatient Acute Rehabilitation.

Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapy (OT) helps people re-learn the skills of daily living. The goal is to increase your independence and safety in day-to-day activities. This may include areas such as bathing, dressing, housekeeping, work and leisure activities. Your occupational therapist may work with you in our dedicated independent living space, where patients practice everyday activities such as eating and fixing meals.

Physical Therapy

Our physical therapy (PT) services focus on joint movement, muscle strength, coordination, balance, bed mobility, walking and wheelchair use. Your treatment program may include exercise, joint mobilization, brace and artificial limb assessment, wheel chair management and propulsion, gait training and other functional activities.

Speech-Language Pathology

Speech-language pathology involves the evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of a variety of communication, cognitive, linguistic and swallowing disorders. Our certified speech language pathologists have intensive training in their field and are dedicated to patient and family education.

During your time at Fletcher Allen Inpatient Acute Rehabilitation, activities may include outings to sporting events and other locations, doing art-related projects or any activity a patient is interested in. Our recreation therapist also helps identify community-based resources to make sure you can continue recreational activities after you’ve been discharged.
