Clinical trials are research studies involving patients who volunteer to participate in the investigation of new therapies and medications. Clinical trials can offer patients immediate access to treatments not available anywhere else.  At Vermont's academic medical center, there are more than 1,000 currently active clinical trials across many fields of medicine.

Clinical Trial Spotlight: Fletcher Allen Begins New Heart Surgery Trial (TAVI)

Fletcher Allen is one of only 45 hospitals nationally now participating in a new U.S. clinical trial to evaluate a revolutionary treatment for a common heart disease, severe aortic stenosis. These heart surgery procedures are part of a research study called TAVI (transcatheter aortic valve implantation) that is designed to determine whether this treatment can be approved for use in the U.S for treating older patients with aortic stenosis.
