The Fletcher Allen Emergency Department is dedicated to providing the Burlington community and Vermont/Northern New York region with first-class emergency care. As the only Level I Trauma Center in Vermont, we offer advanced technology and techniques to care for the most seriously ill and injured pediatric and adult patients. Fletcher Allen was the first organization in the United States to be verified as a Level I Trauma Center for both children and adults.

Critical Care Transport - (802) 847-3228 - Directions
Fletcher Allen Coordinated Transport (FACT), Fletcher Allen’s inter-hospital critical care transport service, transports adult and pediatric patients who require critical care from surrounding community hospitals in Vermont, northern New York and New Hampshire to Fletcher Allen for advanced treatment. FACT has a fleet of three ambulances — two based at Fletcher Allen and one based in Malone, N.Y. — each staffed with a critical care nurse and two advanced level emergency medical technicians. Through its Telemedicine program, Fletcher Allen trauma surgeons have direct video access to the emergency rooms of 12 community hospitals in rural hospitals in Vermont and northern New York and are available to consult on cases 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Using two-way interactive video, telemedicine allows the patient, local provider and specialist to interact and develop a care plan, without having to transfer the patient to a more specialized care center. Caring for patients in the Emergency Department involves collaboration among many different types of health care professionals, including physicians, physician assistants, nurses, emergency medical technicians, respiratory therapists, social workers, child life specialists, case managers and others. They are all dedicated to providing the best possible care for our patients. These staff members are joined by students and health professionals-in-training at the University of Vermont.
