Kohl's Kids Bike Smart (KKBS), is a bike skills training program that teaches children to ride bikes safely, with the goal of keeping them active and injury-free. KKBS is a Vermont Children’s Hospital community program that is run by Local Motion

Kohls LogoKohl’s Kids Bike Smart works with a range of partners across Vermont to get children in grades K through 8 riding their bikes safely and with confidence. KKBS training and camps use a games-based curriculum developed by Local Motion and the Center for Health and Learning. Participants have the opportunity to practice their cycling skills under the supervision of a trained instructor. Bikes and helmets are provided for the duration of the training to all children who need them.

In the summer, KKBS works with municipal parks and recreation departments to offer bike skills camps and training as part of town summer camp schedules. The training ranges from a one-time, three-hour intensive session to a week-long series of daily two-hour sessions, as part of "general" summer camps to full-week bike adventure camps.

Funding for the program is made possible by Kohl's Department Stores through its Kohl's Cares® program. Kohl’s has been a partner of Vermont Children's Hospital at Fletcher Allen Health Care since 2004.

Kohl's donates 100 percent of the net profit of the sale of cause merchandise – including plush toys, books, CDs and cookbooks – for $5 each to the Vermont Children's Hospital to support injury prevention programs in the community. To date, our Burlington Kohl's store at the University Mall has raised $174,949. Merchandise is updated four times a year. Consider making a donation to this important program by purchasing these high-quality items.
