Multiple Myeloma Diagnosis
If you have multiple myeloma, and aren't experiencing any symptoms, Fletcher Allen’s specialist physicians will regularly monitor your condition for signs the disease is progressing using some of the specialized techniques described below. If the multiple myeloma is progressing, you may need treatment.
Diagnosing Multiple Myeloma at Fletcher Allen
Your primary care doctor may find multiple myeloma in a routine blood or urine test, before symptoms begin. If this happens, or if you have symptoms that suggest multiple myeloma, you may have other diagnostic tests, including:
- Bone marrow biopsy
- Fluorescence in Situ Hybridization (FISH) analysis
- Medical history
- Physical exam
- Blood tests, such as:
- Serum Protein Electrophoresis (SPEP)
- Urine tests
