Over 50 years of combined orthopedic expertise in joint replacement.
Our UVM Medical Group orthopedic surgeons at the Adult Reconstructive Surgery Center successfully perform hundreds of joint replacement procedures a year. The types of hip, knee and shoulder treatment options at Fletcher Allen Orthopedics include:
Hip replacement is among the most common and successful of orthopedic surgeries. Fletcher Allen orthopedic surgeons remove the top of your thighbone and replace your hip's ball-and-socket mechanism with artificial implants. As a university hospital, we have access to the latest technology available, including a wide range of implants designed to match your age, gender and lifestyle.
With partial knee replacement - also known as unicompartmental knee arthroplasty - orthopedic surgeons replace part of the knee joint, preserving healthy bones and ligaments in other areas of the knee. The orthopedic surgical procedure is less invasive than total knee replacement, using smaller incisions and resulting in a shorter recovery. Total knee replacement surgery involves removing diseased bone and tissue and implanting a complete, artificial knee joint.
Our UVM Medical Group orthopedic surgeons at the Adult Reconstructive Surgery Center offer a level of expertise only available with those who have focused specifically on shoulders, performing hundreds of shoulder surgeries each year.
Shoulder replacement — although less common than hip or knee replacement — is just as successful in relieving joint pain due to joint wear. Shoulder replacement may be recommended if you have severe arthritis.
Reverse Shoulder Replacement
This procedure is used for patients whose rotator cuff muscles have degenerated or weakened. They can no longer hold the shoulder joint intact. Arthritis is usually a factor.
The surgery is also used in cases of:
- Revisions to previous surgery
- Failed shoulder replacement
- Shoulder fractures
- Lack of a rotator cuff
