Chiropractor (Doctor of Chiropractic)
Doctors of chiropractic (chiropractors) treat problems that affect the alignment of the muscles and bones of the body. They base their treatment on the theory that if the bones in your spine are out of alignment, that can cause many medical problems, especially problems of the nervous system.
Chiropractors use spinal manipulation, which involves working on the head, shoulders, neck, back, or hips to help relieve back pain. It can range from massage and slow pressing to a quick thrust.
Most chiropractors take a natural approach to promoting health through lifestyle changes, nutrition, and exercise. Many chiropractors have extra training in physical rehabilitation and specific exercise therapy. Some also use nutritional analysis, herbal therapy, and acupuncture.
Chiropractors must complete a graduate program of study, including clinical
experience. Chiropractors must then pass national examinations and be licensed
by the state in which they practice.
