The Center’s research focuses on studying management issues in the integration and coordination of health care delivery.  The aim is to provide implementable insights, which result in the improvement of access, finances, operations, and quality in the delivery of care.  The research will identify and disseminate successful innovations and best management practices. 

Research Underway

Understanding the Relationship Between Physician Productivity and Perceived Fairness:  An In Depth Look at the Compensation Plan

Primary Investigator:  Dr. David Jones, University of Vermont School of Business Administration

Summary: This research will seek to understand provider perceptions of, and responses to, the compensation practices at Fletcher Allen, one year post implementation. 

Understanding Radiology Referral Patterns in the State of Vermont

Primary Investigator:  Dr. Tom Noordewier, University of Vermont School of Business Administration

Summary:  Vermont is 50th in the nation in the number of per capita images.  The research will seek to understand why this is the case and potentially offer some solutions on improving this statistic.

Understanding Physician Productivity After an Electronic Medical Record Implementation

Primary Investigator:  Dr. Paul Taheri, MD, MBA, UVM College of Medicine and School of Business Administration

Summary:  One and a half years into an electronic medical record implementation, this study will look at individual physician productivity to try and identify trends and potential recommendations for ensuring success.

A Review of Blood Bank Supply Practices and Improving Spoilage Statistics

Primary Investigators:  Drs. Marilyn Lucas and David Novak, University of Vermont School of Business Administration

Summary:  This research, slated to begin in January of 2011 will focus on understanding the complex inventory and stocking issues at the blood bank.
