Sheikh Jamal Rahman to Lead Spiritual Care Week Conversations
BURLINGTON VT - The Spiritual Resource Center at Fletcher Allen Health Care celebrates Spiritual Care Week on April 29th and 30th with a series of public events designed to promote understanding and conversation between people of various spiritual traditions. Fletcher Allen has invited Sheikh Jamal Rahman, (www.jamalrahman.com) a leader in interfaith community building to engage in conversations centered on suffering, compassion and the spiritual journey.
Sheikh Jamal Rahman remains rooted in his Islamic tradition and cultivates a "Spaciousness" by being open to the beauty and wisdom of other faiths. His most recent book, Getting to the Heart of Interfaith: the Eye-Opening, Hope Filled Friendship of a Pastor, a Rabbi, and a Sheikh brings together leaders of three faith traditions. Known as the Three Amigos, they have been featured in the New York Times, on CBS and PBS and have lead interfaith pilgrimages to Jerusalem.
On Thursday afternoon, April 29 at 4:00, Sheikh Rahman will speak at Fletcher Allen's Davis Auditorium on, A Muslim Response to Suffering and Medical Crises.
On Friday, April 30 he will be joined by Carol Fournier of the Silver Dove Institute and Rabbi Jan Salzman at First Congregational Church in Burlington for a pair of workshops which are free and open to the public. At 9:00 they will present, The Call of Compassion: Our Common Spiritual Path. At 1:00 they will present, The Role of the Spiritual Director on the Spiritual Journey.
On Friday evening, at St. James' Episcopal Church in Essex Junction at 6:00 PM, the celebration will conclude with Interfaith Worship, A Call to Transformation of the Heart. This worship is free and open to the public and will be lead by The Rev. Kenneth Hitch, Rabbi David Steinberg and Sheikh Jamal Rahman.
