BURLINGTON, VT - Fletcher Allen Health Care has made changes to visiting policies for the Birthing Center and Mother/Baby Unit in an effort to protect patients, visitors and staff from exposure to influenza. Historically, 65% of all influenza infections occur in February and March.
The Birthing Center, located on the seventh floor of the McClure Building, and the Mother/Baby Unit, located on the fifth floor of the Shepardson Building have made the following changes:
• Only two support people for mothers are allowed.
• Support people must remain the same throughout the hospital stay.
There will be no alternates allowed.
• Support people must have no signs of illness.
• No children 12 years old and younger may visit.
• Children age 13 and older may visit as long as they have no signs
of illness. They will count as one support person.
• No tours until further notice.
Prospective mothers wishing to see labor, delivery and recovery facilities can visit the Birthing Center website and take a virtual tour.
These visiting precautions are in the best interest of our patients as the flu season peaks and reflect the priority Fletcher Allen places on patient safety and infection control.
