Pediatric Care, Mental Health Research, and Families of the Critically Ill to Benefit

(BURLINGTON)  Fletcher Allen Health Care raised $3.9 million for its Annual Fund in Fiscal Year 2012, exceeding its goal by $100,000. The total is a 24% increase over FY 2011.

Contributions to the Annual Fund support a variety of programs that provide direct benefits to patients and their families including research into cancer and heart rhythm abnormalities, children's services and psychiatric care, among others.

"We are truly fortunate to be in a giving community that continues to support this organization and the patients and families we serve," said John Brumsted, M.D., president and chief executive officer. "We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has given to Fletcher Allen. Their generosity makes it possible for us to provide the highest level of care every day."

Examples of how Annual Fund contributions impact programs and services include:

  • $1 million will be applied to construction of an Intensive Care waiting room for families of critically ill patients, who often spend extended periods of time in the hospital.
  • $20,000 will be devoted to research of an innovative tool to evaluate suicide risk in patients, ensure uniformity in assessments and standardize documentation of patient evaluations.
  • $300,000 will support Fletcher Allen’s Pediatric Immigrant Clinic which provides primary care to refugees from Africa and Asia among other regions.
