Fletcher Allen, a Vermont university hospital and medical center, serves all of
Vermont and the northern New York region. Located in Burlington, Fletcher Allen is a regional, academic healthcare center and teaching hospital in alliance with the University of Vermont.
Fletcher Allen Partners
Fletcher Allen Partners is the new parent organization of Fletcher Allen Health Care and Central Vermont Medical Center. In the fall of 2011, we entered into a formal affiliation agreement with Central Vermont Medical Center to help develop a coordinated health system in Vermont that will build on our joint efforts to deliver high-quality care to Vermonters as efficiently as possible. This agreement closely aligns our organizations with state and federal health care reform agendas that promote enhanced integration.
Fletcher Allen Partners has approval rights over significant matters of each organization such as budgets, strategic plans, and major financial decisions.
System Activities
Our organizations are planning a year-by-year process to implement the affiliation. Eventually, Fletcher Allen Partners will carry out centralized activities for the benefit of patients of both CVMC and Fletcher Allen, such as:
- Regional strategic planning
- Joint quality and clinical initiatives
- Joint purchasing and supply chain management
- Tax-exempt bond borrowing
- Development of a common electronic health record platform
Working Together While Preserving Unique Identities
Under the affiliation, Fletcher Allen and CVMC will remain separate free-standing hospitals with their own boards, management, workforce, licensure, medical staff (including credentialing and governance), and endowment. The medical staffs of each hospital will remain separate with separate credentialing and governance.
Governance
Fletcher Allen Partners has an 17-member Board of Trustees drawn from the membership of both organization’s current boards. Fletcher Allen’s interim President & CEO Dr. John R. Brumsted serves as CEO of the system parent; CVMC President Judy Tarr Tartaglia serves as Senior Vice President. 11 board members are from Fletcher Allen and 6 from CVMC. They are:
