Energy Conservation

As part of our commitment to environmental responsibility, Fletcher Allen looks for opportunities to reduce energy consumption. Here are a few of our initiatives:
Electrical
For several years running, we have achieved a steady decrease in electrical power consumption in the range of 6% to 8%, or 4.5 million kilowatt hours. In 2008 alone, we eliminated 1,265 tons of carbon emissions and saved $222,000 on our electric bill. The 2009 reduction of 3.9 million kWh is equivalent to:
- 1,600 tons of carbon being removed from the atmosphere
- Planting 615 acres of trees
- Taking 1067 cars off the road
HVAC
Our efforts to make heating and cooling more efficient have concentrated on the following:
- Insulating steam fittings
- Improving chilled water systems
- Lighting retrofit
- Upgrading air handling unit controls
