Energy Conservation

As part of our commitment to environmental responsibility, Fletcher Allen looks for opportunities to reduce energy consumption. Here are a few of our initiatives:
Electrical
For several years running, we have achieved a steady decrease in electrical power consumption. Between 2008 and 2011, we have saved over 2.8 million KWH. The savings is equivalent to:
- Removing 1,659 metric tons of carbon from the atmosphere or
- Supplying electricity to over 250 homes for a year
For 2012, our goal is to again reduce energy consumption for gas and electricity by 1,000,000 kWh, the equivalent of 592 metric tons of carbon emission. Our goal is to achieve efficiencies in:
- Air handling unit effectiveness
- Steam distribution
- LED lighting
HVAC
Our efforts to make heating and cooling more efficient have concentrated on the following:
- Insulating steam fittings
- Improving chilled water systems
- Lighting retrofit
- Upgrading air handling unit controls
- Upgrading our steam plant
