Who We Are

As Vermont’s University Medical Center, we at Fletcher Allen are committed to providing the highest quality of care for patients and their families throughout the region. We care for people every day – helping them in their time of need, offering compassion and a kind word, and providing leading edge, research-based therapies. Above all, we are dedicated to service and putting patients first.  Everyone deserves high-quality care, and we honor the human experience every day, in everything we do.

Through a vital partnership, Fletcher Allen, the University of Vermont College Medicine and the College of Nursing and Health Sciences form Vermont’s University Medical Center – one of just 138 such centers in the country. Together in service, we improve our region’s quality of life with innovations in medicine and health care that arise from new knowledge and discovery.

We are committed to the development of an Integrated Delivery System, which provides high-value health care to the communities we serve and enhances our academic mission.  Our nationally recognized physicians and health care professionals are researchers and teachers who are experts on the latest developments in their fields and dedicated to the art and science of medicine.

At Fletcher Allen, we deliver all of the resources and opportunities of a major medical center right here in Vermont, providing patients with the breadth and depth of services they need and an array of specialists nationally acclaimed for their work in a wide range of areas including cardiology, oncology, neurology, stroke, trauma and many others.

Central to the Health of a Community

Serving a population of greater than 1 million in Vermont and northern New York, Fletcher Allen provides a full range of tertiary-level inpatient and outpatient services, and has earned the distinction of being designated a Level I Trauma Center.  Fletcher Allen is also home to the Vermont Children’s Hospital, a full-service hospital within a hospital that was named to U.S. News and World Report “Best Children’s Hospitals” list for 2012-2013.

Fletcher Allen serves approximately 160,000 residents in Chittenden and Grand Isle counties and provides primary care services at ten Vermont sites. In addition, Fletcher Allen is creating an integrated family of Patient-Centered Medical Homes, which foster a team approach to improving health outcomes for patients.

We understand that food matters when it comes to the health of our patients and the community. We take responsibility for the food we serve by partnering with more than 70 regional farmers and producers to supply healthier food to our patients and customers, while boosting the local economy.  We are also striving to be the greenest health care organization in the country by reducing our energy consumption and carbon footprint. See Our Environmental Commitment for more information.

An Integrated System of Care

In the constantly evolving world of health care, we have a proven track record for delivering high-quality health care. We are able to do this by collaborating with other hospitals and health systems, including our Fletcher Allen Partners affiliations with Central Vermont Medical Center (CVMC), Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital (CVPH), and Elizabethtown Community Hospital. This highly integrated health care system improves access to local care in the communities of Vermont and northern New York, and allows for purchasing efficiencies and shared information technology.

See the Fletcher Allen Partners site for more information.

Our facilities and services also include partnerships with Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone, N.Y.; Canton-Potsdam Hospital in Potsdam, N.Y.; Inter-Lakes Health in Ticonderoga, N.Y.; and Visiting Nurse Association of Chittenden and Grand Isle Counties in Colchester, Vt.

Together, we are building an integrated health system across Vermont and northern New York that provides a strong network of high-quality care to the people in the communities we serve.
