Application and Interview Proceure for Graduates of US and Canadian
(LCME accredited) Medical Schools

1. All applications must be submitted via ERAS

2. Application components and deadline

The basic components of your application (the common application form, transcripts, and Dean's letter) must be received by December 1, 2004. Your file should eventually include your curriculum vitae, personal statement, Dean's letter, a letter from the Chairman of your Department of Pediatrics, and two letters from clinical instructors who know you well. At least one of the latter should have worked with you on an inpatient rotation. Successful completion of the USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 Exams is required prior to the start of all UVM Residencies. COMLEX Scores are not accepted.  We prefer that the results of the USMLE exams are available as part of the ERAS application prior to the ranking process (in late January) if possible. You may be invited for an interview prior to our receiving all of your letters of recommendation, but we will need to have all letters before entering any applicant into the match.

3. Photographs

Photographs are NOT required to complete your ERAS application. However, having a photograph on file is very helpful to us, particularly once you are scheduled to participate in an interview day. (Please note: ERAS does not permit programs to view photographs of applicants until the training program has invited you for an interview)

4. Applicant Interview Scheduling and the Interview Day

Once our selection committee has reviewed your application we will send invitations to interview to selected applicants via e-mail. Please be sure to indicate your preferred email address on your ERAS application. Each interview date has limited space so please be sure to respond as early as possible to our invitation in order to schedule your interview on the date that works best for your schedule.

The University of Vermont Department of Pediatrics conducts a daylong interview. Mondays and Fridays your day will begin at 7:30 a.m. and end by 3:30 p.m. On Wednesdays your interview day will begin at 7:45 a.m. and end by 3:00 p.m. The interview day consists of attendance at Professor Rounds (Mondays and Fridays) or Grand Rounds (Wednesdays), a presentation by the Program Director (Ann Guillot, MD), individual interviews with the Department Chairman (Lewis First, MD), the Program Director (Ann Guillot, MD) and a third interview with a faculty member of the University of Vermont Department of Pediatrics, lunch with 2 of our current residents, a tour of the hospital with our Chief Resident (Karen Leonard, MD), and a tour of one of the two outpatient continuity sites. Applicants are strongly encouraged to participate in the whole interview day process. However, should you have any special needs on that date, please be sure to let our Program Coordinator (Vanessa Pichette) know and we will try to accommodate those needs as best we can.
