Clinical Services

General Pediatrics Unit (Baird 5)
The Children's Health Care Service has a 30-bed General Pediatrics Unit, for the care of infants, children and adolescents, that receives 2,178 admissions per year. The medical team is composed of 3-4 intern-level house staff, a second year pediatric resident, and a Ward Attending.

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
Our 20-bed NICU provides care for sick newborns and premature babies and sees 423 admissions per year. The NICU team includes 2-3 intern-level house staff, a second year pediatric resident, a neonatal nurse practitioner, a neonatal fellow and an attending neonatologist.

Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)
The PICU is a 4-bed unit that receives 263 medical, surgical, and trauma admissionsper year. As the only American College of Surgeons-verified Regional Pediatric Trauma Resource Center in northern New England and New York, we provide up-to-date care for injured children. The PICU team includes a second or third year pediatric resident and a PICU attending.

Birthing Center and Newborn Nursery
The Children's Health Care Service of Fletcher Allen Health Care helps bring nearly 2,500 babies into the world every year. Each birth is considered a unique and special event, deserving of individual attention and flexibility. Family members are welcome to share in the birthing experience.

University Pediatrics

Children's Specialty Center
The Children's Specialty Center is a state-of-the-art multispecialty clinic, used by both pediatric subspecialists and pediatric surgeons for outpatient visits and procedures.

Neonatal and Pediatric Transport Services
Transport teams consisting of a physician, specially trained nurse or nurse practitioner, and respiratory therapist can be dispatched to transport a sick newborn baby or seriously ill child to the NICU or PICU.
