Welcome to the information page for the Neurological Surgery Residency Program at the University of Vermont/Fletcher Allen Health Care. The University of Vermont residency program in neurological surgery is approved by the Council on Graduate Medical Education of the AMA and the American Board of Surgery. One position is filled yearly. Residency training includes six clinical years and a year of research during the G3 year. Residents are encouraged to explore clinical and basic research opportunities available at the university and hospital. We pride ourselves on the one-on-one interaction between resident and attending. Our residents are exposed to a varied and broad surgical experiences, including subspecialties, sufficient to prepare for careers in general or academic neurological surgery. No surgical fellowships are offered at the University of Vermont/Fletcher Allen Health Care. All recent program graduates have completed postgraduate fellowship training, including functional, pediatric, skull base, and spine neurosurgery. Many of our recent graduates have entered full-time academic neurosurgery. Bruce I. Tranmer, M.D.
