Rotations

The first clinical year rotations are on three general surgery services (Vascular, GI & Colorectal, Trauma), Plastic Surgery, Cardiothoracic Surgery, the Surgical Intensive Care Unit, Neurological Surgery, Pediatric Surgery, Orthopaedic Surgery (trauma service) and Emergency Surgical Service.

Rotations in the second year include Surgical Intensive Care Unit, Vascular Surgery, Transplant, General & Colorectal Surgery, Surgical Oncology and the Emergency Surgical Service.

A year is spent in Surgical Research between the second and third clinical years.

During the third clinical year the resident gains further experience in Vascular Surgery, General and Colorectal Surgery, Critical Care, Transplant Surgery, Surgical Endoscopy and Advanced Laparoscopy, and the Emergency Surgical Service.

Residents in the fourth clinical year spend four months as chief resident on the Cardiothoracic Surgery, Pediatric Surgery/Trauma Surgery services and Emergency Surgical Service.

The final clinical year is devoted to serving as chief resident on three general surgery services: Vascular, General Surgery & Colorectal, and Surgical Oncology.

The majority of all clinical training occurs at the Medical Center Hospital campus with some ambulatory surgery experience at the Fanny Allen Campus, three miles to the east.
