First Year

The PGY1 year exposes the orthopaedic resident to general surgery, to surgical subspecialties such as pediatric surgery, plastic surgery, and neurosurgery, to the surgical intensive care unit, and to the emergency room. This first year is designed to develop the residents' skills in managing surgical patients needed to care for orthopaedic patients. Three months are spent on the orthopaedics service.

Second Year

During the PGY2 year, residents are given four-month exposures to the Trauma Service and the Emergency Room. They also spend two months on the Joint Reconstructive Service and Hand Service.

Third Year

In the PGY3 year, residents are given four months to perform basic science or clinical research projects. They spend four months on the Sports Medicine Service, followed by two months on the Spine Service and Hand Service.

Fourth Year

In the PGY4 year, the resident has an experience on the following services:

Hand Service (includes microvascular surgery)
Trauma Service
Spine Service
Pediatric Othopaedics Service

Fifth Year

During the PGY5 year, residents develop their arthroscopic skills on the Sports Medicine Service for four months. They also spend four months on the Joint Reconstruction Service and two months on Trauma and Spine Services.
